Cathall Road Decorative Archway
The archway was commissioned as part of the regeneration of Cathall Road estate in Leytonstone, London.
This was a community-led project, thanks to the neighbourhood’s long-established steering group, which encouraged enthusiastic local support and input for the design. Residents talked about a natural well discovered in the area, and from that a ‘water’ theme was suggested.
Coloured leaf and fish forms were riveted to front and reverse of each panel with curved steel sections creating ‘waves’ across the surface of the archway.
The five linking frames make up the 10-metre wide archway creating a welcome pop of colour among the estate’s new buildings.
